AC Shadows Reveals Bizarre AoT Collaboration for Holiday Season
In a bizarre crossover event that challenges conventional predictions, the game developer has announced an virtual partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the acclaimed anime series Attack on Titan. The unexpected holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, providing no-cost bonus story content for Shadows players.
Strange Adventure Disclosed
According to the formal announcement, "A mysterious confrontation draws heroes Naoe and Yasuke into a new mission, where rumors of banned ceremonies and fearsome transformations resonate through the obscurity." The storyline presents a "oddly garbed woman named Ada" who tasks the pair with venturing into the Crystalline Cavern—a significant location from Attack on Titan—to rescue her friend from a hidden cult.
The questline focuses on "bizarre tests and a fearsome enemy" and is open to all players who have gained access to the Yasuke character.
Familiar Locations and Metamorphoses
The trailer features the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan redesigned as the Crystal Cave. This significant location was earlier where the Reiss royal family handed down the Founding Titan ability through eras. The preview finishes with a striking sequence showing a character, likely the captive, morphing into a Titan that rises over Naoe and Yasuke.
Exclusive Items and Additional Material
Players who accomplish the adventure will receive an exclusive katana together with multiple items hidden throughout the area in secret chests. The update also contains purchasable Attack on Titan item packs, offering:
- Titan-inspired outfit for Yasuke
- Mikasa outfit for Naoe
- Exclusive implements
- Survey Corps vehicle
Third Free Story Addition
This release also brings the game's third free story episode, titled "The Mystery." This humorous adventure teams Naoe and Yasuke as they swap signature skills: Naoe debuts a theatrical version of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke masters non-lethal stealth takedowns. Loyal to its name, "The Enigma" also contains a fresh environmental puzzle that may ultimately shed light on some lingering questions from the main storyline.
Past Japanese Animation Partnerships
This marks hardly the initial time the Assassin's Creed franchise has collaborated with popular anime properties. The series formerly featured a 2020 collaborative story connecting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Furthermore, Valhalla informally featured a quest that unmistakably echoed the well-known series One-Punch Man.
