From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing divine entities, demons, and sinister influences expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
Episode 3 ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
With a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might seem unsuited, but the events of the latest installment make it clear why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
First, the group knows exactly where to go next after a intense initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, attacking Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.
The traitor then cleared his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as the companion and best friend, wants retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and cautions that it is a nasty location.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- But, their position as important members in the influential clan could assist the team access locations they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.
This means them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.
What’s Next?
From episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight cast members to assemble the Questers and Planners tables.
Viewers can expect learning which players will be in which group in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
